The American Lung Association of Maine has a long history of providing training for asthma educators in the state of Maine. Over the last 20 years, over 400 respiratory therapists, nurses, school nurses and health educators have successfully completed this training. We are proud of our long association with this fine group of professionals and appreciate the work they do to help the people of Maine live successfully with asthma.

The need for asthma educators continues. Maine has one of the highest rates of childhood asthma in New England with 28,000 children diagnosed. In addition, 100,000 Maine adults are living with asthma or lung disease. As the need continues, the information and resources continues to change increasing the need for continuing education.

2008 Asthma Educator Institute

Again, this year the Asthma Educator Institute will be sponsored by ALAME, Southern Maine Community College and Kennebec Valley Community College. This year it will be hosted by KVCC on their campus in Fairfield, Maine. Students and faculty from both campuses will participate in the two-day training, May 1- 2, 2008.
